Communication for the Win!
I respond to audio communication better, written would have to be a close second. As a child who developed in the seven second vine era, I have a short attention span for most media. Listening to something is much less energy than watching AND listening. This is why Most of my media consumption is made up of 2 minute twitter videos or hours long podcasts. I could credit my overactive imagination as well. This is why written is also a form of communication I respond well to. Oftentimes how my brain interprets the words I am listening and/or reading,is a better depiction then what it would be as a form of visual media. Now this is solely anecdotal evidence but every book or podcast I have enjoyed that turns into visual media has been highly disappointing. In my mind everything just seems better. I can blame Hollywood for making not so good adaptations but I would rather blame my brain for having such an awesome imagination.
As a person that barely consumes visual media, eye catching things are necessary. For example, if a movie has amazing graphics I would be more inclined to watch it. Being aesthetically pleasing is also a bonus. Having a color scheme that makes someone want to stay locked in is key. Many of the new aged young adult tv shows are focused on cinematography. Unlike classic dramas from years before, They use colors, lighting, and extreme realism to keep their audience. This is not me saying that older tv shows are not realistic. However, there is a different level of responsibility in this day and age to have proper representation in the media for all people. If a show is based in a specific area, it has to be true to the actual place. This makes up a very small percentage of what it takes to make an amazing piece of visual media but it is still a necessary tool.
Three company logos that caught my eye are the luxury house Fenty, Mcdonalds, and Airbnb. Fenty is owned by former recording artist Rihanna. The reason her logo is eye catching is the juxtaposition of color dueled with the intricacy of the design. It is a baby blue background that has white wording on top. The bright colored background with the even brighter lettering make it hard to miss. The best part of this logo is the actual logo itself. At first glance it looks like a box but as you look closer it actually spells fenty. The “golden arch” in the mcdonalds logo paired with a bright red background is what makes their logo. Mcdonalds golden arches are almost like a beacon if you see them you just know where you are headed. Finally Air bnb’s logo is confusing. I'm not sure what it's supposed to be. However, The fact that they are using a peachy color is what got me. I have never seen a brand use that shade of pink before.
